The Lesser Half...
Onward we went, to the Toon Lagoon. The Toon Lagoon is a really cool place, for the young and the old. Actually, it's probably better for the older people. They don't have licensing rights to anything owned by Disney or Nickelodeon so they were left with some of the older cartoons. The older cartoons included; Betty Boop, all the Popeye guys, all the Dudley Do-Right guys, the Rocky and Bullwinkle Guys and that was about the extent of the real star power there. The two rides on this Island are Dudley Do-Right's Rip Saw Falls and Popeye & Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges. These are both water rides. If you went anywhere in Florida over Spring Break you'll remember that it was cold as hell for most of that week. No way we were getting on either of those rides. I've been on them before and you get plenty wet. We did get this cool picture of the entrance to the Dudley Do-Right's.
Jurassic Park is, without a doubt, the lamest Island in the park. Seriously, there should be a sign at the entrance that says, "If you would like to have fun, please walk briskly through this Island and continue when you get to the next." That's not the case, however. Oh well. I understand why they have this Island though. I used to work and a toy store and I know that kids go freaking nuts for dinosaurs, for whatever reason. The only ride in this Island is a River Adventure. Its really boring, except for one semi-big drop at the end. Unlike the toon rides though, you don't get wet on this one. I told Jay it wasn't worth it and we moved on. The only picture we took was of a sign as you go in.
The next Island on our adventure was called the Lost Continent. Oooh, spooky. The Lost Continent is really cool though. I mean take a look at this guy you see when you first get in. He looks cool as hell. Aside from him the setting they have worked up there is really cool. There's like medieval carts selling stuff and carnival games and stuff. There's also this really cool fountain controlled by someone that talks to people passing by and spits water out at them and stuff. Really cool. Too bad we didn't get any pictures of any of that stuff.
The real reason The Lost Continent is cool is thanks to the only ride that gives the Hulk a run for its money. Again, the setting for this ride is cool like the rest of the Island. It's all medieval and cool looking. Check out these skulls embedded on of the walls you pass as you're walking up to the ride. Dueling Dragons is similar to the Hulk except that two coasters run at the same time on different tracks. These tracks are called "fire" and "ice". The premise behind it is just the battle between fire and ice. It's cool though, because you come really close to hitting the other coaster a couple times in the ride. Some people have a favorite, we did each one a few times and I can't tell a difference. We met this Mom and her son waiting in line for the ride, they were from Wisconsin. I think son liked the ice ride better, although I can't remember anymore. On a side note, even they were pissed off about the weather. Try and guess which one this picture was taken from the top of. If you know, email me, because I have no idea.
The last Island in the park is called Dr. Seuss Landing. While obviously geared toward children this place is awesome. Check out this sweet panoramic of the view of the place when you're walking in. Admittedly, you can't making any one thing out in the picture, you can imagine that its probably pretty cool. There are the three rides in this Island; the Caro-Seuss-El, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and The Cat in the Hat. The Caro-Seuss_El is exactly what it sounds like, a cool carousel. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is kind of like the Dumbo ride in Disneyworld. The difference is, you can control your fish by following the directions in this rhyme they have playing. If you don't follow them you get squirted with water. Good fun for kids. The Cat in the Hat is the only ride we actually went on. It's basically you riding through story, not much to it, but it was fun.
We spent the majority of our time in Dr. Deuss Landing just walking around admiring the place. There was so much to do there. But whatever you do, don't go too far. Take a ride on the on the Amazing Everything Wagon. Visit the Circus McGurkus Café. I hear it's stoo-pendous. Just don't give in to the power of suggestion or you could end up with a picture like this.
One more thing that they had there; a zoo, a zoo, I do declare. An ordinary zoo this was not, they had animals named Zis and Zot. You won't see nature in captivity, what you see appears from creativity. So don't forget to stop on by and bring your friend the Grozzon Fly.
Ok, so writing children's literature is probably not in my future, but what the hell, Dr. Seuss is cool. Anyway, that's my story of our trip to the Islands of Adeventure. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it. Good times were had by all. Thanks for your interest in reading my rumination. Until next time.
