Social Media and the Internet
As the Internet and Web 2.0 applications continue to evolve, flash mobbing becomes easier. Some problems with creating e-mail or text messaging lists is that people have to subscribe and, generally, people don’t want to receive random text messages or e-mails. However, with social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, groups can be created and potential mobbers can find a group and receive messages entirely through the site. Here, organizers and rely on electronic word of mouth to spread the idea of the flash mobbing in their area and easily receive feedback and suggestions from mobbers.
With YouTube, Flickr and other sites, flash mobbers can share video and pictures without relying on traditional media to spread the word. Also, these sites allow comments for feedback and suggestions.
