Distribution of National Forests

Above is a map of all forest land in the United States and their species classification. Of all these forest-lands only 6% are owned and managed by the Forest Service, and the majority are privately owned by civilians.


National Forest occupy 191 million acres, which is the land-area equivalent of Texas.
They are broken down into 9 regions:

• Northern Region
• Rocky Mountain Region
• Southwestern Region
• Intermountain Region
• Pacific Southwest Region
• Pacific Northwest Region
• Southern Region
• Eastern Region
• Alaska Region
