Throughout the month of March and continuing after spring break in April the students learned about landformations. After reading the information provided in their textbooks each student was assigned a land formation that he/she would study in detail. Since the children were already learning about research in their writing class I was able to expand library research into Internet research. Bookmarked links were provided for each land form and a lot of guidence was provided to help the students be successful with their research. The students were provided with a storyweb with eight spaces for them to write eight 8 facts about their land form. As they read through the websites they took notes and filled out the storyweb. When the web was completed the information was transfered into a Inspiration mind map and pictures were added to give more detail. These mind maps were then made into a classbook for the classroom, overhead transparencies, and a notes page. The students used the transparencies to give a short presentation to the class on their land formation. They were great visuals for the other students to look since for some this was their first glance at the particular formation being presented.
