What's in a Name? Elastic Annex is a Webquest designed for high school students. The name was chosen to describe the intended versatility of an art classroom. Elastic refers to the flexibility required of a room housing multiple materials and processes, not to mention the artists at work. Annex implies seizing a space (verb) or a multi-disciplinary area (noun). Putting everything together, Elastic Annex aims to explore the possibilities of a space capable of facilitating various artistic ventures. So, strap on your designer digs—it's time to
plan your ideal creative space! Congratulations! Your high school has just been awarded a generous donation! The donor, famous artist and alum, formerly known as Alimeg Carrie- Marie Eavis (“Acme”), class of 1927, has specified that 99.9% of her contribution be designated to the construction and interior design of a new art annex. (The other .1% will be used to build an outdoor shrine in her honor.) Thanks to Acme’s charitable contribution, you now have the opportunity to give input regarding the design of an ideal art space. You will create a proposal and prototype for consideration, accounting for various structural elements—both practical and aesthetic. With money as no concern, what would your ideal art classroom look like?
