I am fortunate that UF's College of Journalism and Communications offers a wide range of Web and online based journalism courses. For the past three semesters I have been learning and practicing HTML and CSS both in the classroom and through projects I have taken on independently. Below are three exercises from my Advanced Online Communications course as well as a Web site I am currently redesigning for the West Putnam Lake Region Association.
The WPLA is an environmental group with a large membership that communicates primarily through their Web site. Their older, outdated site needed a complete redesign.

This assignment encouraged us to think about typography in terms of design and conveying emotions. We chose two opposite words and used fonts to convey their meaning.
To show our positioning skills using CSS, we were given a GIF screenshot of a Web page and the HTML markup of the page, and asked to create CSS to match the GIF.
