Squier Stratocaster Silverburst Squier close up

I bought this guitar during my first summer of law school. I've been fairly impressed with the quality of the "Crafted in China" Squier, although I've noticed some early fretwear that is concerning me.

Trivia: I bought this from Lipham Music here in Gainesville, which is the store Tom Petty worked at until his career took off.

When I went shopping for an electric guitar I faced the classic decision: Stratocaster or Les Paul. Frankly Les Pauls feel like bricks to me. Besides, between Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, how could I not go with the Strat.

To perk this axe up I replaced the standard stock pickups with an EMG SV set. I've always wanted EMGs, and these are tone modeled after the '59 Strats like Stevie Ray Vaughan used to love. The lack of single coil hum is great, and the dynamic range just can't be beat. These things are awesome.

So far I've been using Ernie Ball super slinky strings. Dunlop Ultex and Cool picks are proving to be my favorites.
