Quotation of January

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"Put in a tape. Quick", pleads Jamie.
"Which tape?"
"Songs about robots - written by cash registers. Anything to counteract that hippie noise."

This is a quotation from Douglas Coupland's novel Polaroids from the Dead, which is really a mixture of fiction and documentary. With a Grateful Dead concert as the centre point, he introduces us to many of the characters attending and avoiding the concert, both the surviving hippies from the sixties and their modern more plastic and practically-minded decendants. The fabulous Canadian writer/artist Douglas Coupland has an official homepage at www.coupland.com and you will find more quotations from his books if you check out my old (and probably new) quotations.
