Teaching is always a two-way process - both for the teacher and the student. Both are coming together with the same goal - knowledge transfer. And although it might appear that the student is always the one who receives knowledge I believe that both student and teacher can learn from each other.

PSCI1323 Use and Abuse of Drugs
This elective course introduces students to concepts and trends of
drugs of abuse and misuse as well as discusses the pharmacology of
commonly encountered drugs of abuse and misuse.
PSCI1357 Introduction to Forensic Science for Healthcare
Professionals
Forensic Sciences has become popular through TV series such as
“CSI” and documentaries. However, the relevance of Forensic
Toxicology and especially the increased abuse of licit and illicit
drugs affect many professionals working in a healthcare related
field. This course is intended to introduce the main areas of
Forensic Sciences and especially the involvement of healthcare
professionals such as physicians, pharmacists, and nurses in
discovering and preventing the abuse of drugs. The course will
present techniques used in Forensic Sciences to secure and analyze
commonly encountered specimens as well as describe the epidemiology,
pharmacology, toxicology, medicinal chemistry, and clinical
manifestation of the most commonly abused drugs.
PHID1502 Integrated Sequence 2 (team taught)
The assigned sections cover the pharmacology and medicinal chemistry
of drugs acting on the autonomous nervous system (both sympathetic
and parasympathetic branches). Students will also learn about the
various therapeutic applications and the pathophysiology of
disorders where such drugs are used.

PHA5352 Herbal Medicines
This course is a required course for PharmD students at the
University of Florida. It introduces the concepts of herbal and
dietary supplements and provides students with both pharmacological
and clinical evidence-based approaches to commonly used herbal
supplements and how to counsel patients in the clinical setting.
PHA6556 Introduction to Clinical Toxicology
This introductory course introduces students to the concepts of
basic diagnostic and treatment considerations for the overdosed and
poisoned patient.
PHA6935 Epidemiology & Biostatistics in Clinical Toxicology
The often dreaded subject of statistics applied to clinical and
epidemiological studies will be discussed in this course in a
practical and applicable manner that students can relate to. The
principles of various clinical study designs, hypothesis testing for
two or more treatment groups, as well as regression and association
testing.
PHA6557 Clinical Toxicology 1
In this course several important therapeutic drug classes used in
chemotherapy, cardiovascular and neurological disorders, as well as
ophthalmic and otolaryngological treatments. Drugs are discussed
based on their pharmacological and toxicological activities and
mechanisms of action.
PHA6935 Organic Structure Elucidation
This course introduces the use of spectroscopic methods and tools (IR,
NMR, MS, UV) for the accurate determination of molecular structure.
This skill is essential for chemists in many areas, such as
medicinal chemistry, process chemistry, natural products chemistry,
forensic chemistry, and many other sub-specialties of analytical
chemistry.
PHA6357 Herbal and Dietary Supplements
This course provides healthcare professionals interested in
advancing their knowledge in the field of dietary and herbal
supplements. The course covers the most important and commonly used
herbal and dietary supplements currently on the market and provides
up-to-date information.
PHA6354 Natural Medicinal Products
An introduction to the isolation, characterization, and use of
medicinal plants.
VME6766 Laboratory QA/QC
This course provides students with the theoretical knowledge for
work in a laboratory that utilized or wants to utilize a quality
assurance/quality control system.
PHA6840 Medicinal Chemistry of Drugs of Abuse
This course introduces students to the chemical and pharmacological
properties of significant illicit drugs, the Controlled Substances
Act, and a brief overview of the legal and forensic implications.
PHA6417 Pharmaceutical Analysis 2
Various analytical methods currently utilized in forensic and
pharmaceutical laboratories for the identification and
quantification of drugs will be presented in this course.
PHA6432 Fundamentals of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
(formerly PHA5433 Fundamentals of Medicinal Chemistry)
This is a foundation course whose aims are to provide an
introduction to the principles of Medicinal chemistry.
PHA6444 Pharmaceutical Chemistry 1
(formerly PHA5437 Medicinal Chemistry 1)
Students are shown how to predict the solubilities,
structure-activity relationships, basic synthesis routes for
selected structures, metabolism and pharmacological activity/potency
of drug classes and individual members of classes based on the
contribution of their functional groups to their structures.
PHA6543 Pharmaceutical Chemistry 2
(formerly PHA5438 Medicinal Chemistry 2)
Students are shown how to predict the solubilities,
structure-activity relationships, basic synthesis routes for
selected structures, metabolism and pharmacological activity/potency
of drug classes and individual members of classes based on the
contribution of their functional groups to their structures.
