Namtso or Lake Nam is regarded by the local people as “heavenly lake”. “tso” in Tibetan means “lake”. In historical records, the lake is renowned for its color of heavenly blue, so named after heavenly lake. It is said, Namtso is the incarnation of Namtso the goddess, Mother of Tibet. And Tanggula Mountains is the incarnation of Tanggula the god, Father of Tibet. There are two megaliths called the Couple Stone on the lake shore leaning close to each other, representing the love of the two gods.

Gongbu Mountain isn't the most famous mountain in Tibet. Seldom people know the birthplace of race Zang, the majority group in Tibet. It is said in Gongbu Mountain, the holy mountain of Tibet, there lived a bodhisattva, a monkey turned from a degraded god and a beautiful siren. The siren married the monkey and gave birth to six monkeys. Generation after generation, they are the Tietan people nowadays.
