Cinema Verde

Founded in 2009, Cinema Verde is an organization that hosts environmental film festival annually. It is located in Gainesville, the “sunshine state”, Florida. Through films, art and events, Cinema Verde is trying to increase the awareness of environmental protection and conservation. It also hosts the weekly meeting named go green nation. In the year of 2012, the film festival attracted more than 3000 participants, and screened 25 professional films as well as 15 student submissions.

The activities of Cinema Verde take various forms, as reported by the official site of Cinema Verde (2012), “We opened the festival with a VIP Reception, invited several film directors to talk with our audiences following their films, held a local pot luck honoring local farmers, held an eco-art gallery with works from local students and professional artists from the area and as far away as New York City; held an Eco Fair with sustainable business and organizational booths; hosted musical performances and promoted eco-tours led by local guides showcasing the natural resources of the area. Our guest directors also spoke with students in Alachua County Schools, at the University of Florida and at the Thomas Center”(Pare. 2).
