Boogie Woogie

"Fats" Walker started this style of Jazz. This was a style of improvised piano music played during the 20's in Chicago. Boogie Woogie first orginated in the mining areas of the midwest. It involved a short, accented bass pattern that played repeatedly while the right hand plays freely, using many different rhythms and techniques."The boogie woogie shares much in style to the previously named piano styles. However, it is noted for a faster moving left hand. Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis helped make the boogie woogie popular."












Society Dance Bands

The last major style of Jazz was from Chicago during the 20's of course, this style was the Society Dance Bands. These bands were big with lots of arrangments, they were located downtown and seemed more slower placed with no improvisions at all. From there name alone you can see that they were main focus was dancing. Their sound was copied more by other bands because of how sophistacated their sound was and how successful it became.


Urban Blues

This was another style that came about during the 1920's Jazz era. It is said that this style was played mainly primarily in an area known as the bucket of blood. The bucket of blood was basically an area along the South Side of Chicago. The clubs there were known to hire the most popular msuicians of Jazz.















Chicago Jazz

This style was mainly played by white musicians. Chicago Jazz was very aggressive and would always end sudden. "This style was more rehearsed and much tighter than the other styles of Jazz."
