Jim Roche has been making performance art film since 1979. His work is informed by a range of human traits, and portrayed through direct imitation or acting that seems to channel bizarre and sometimes disturbing character performances. The camera work is straightforward and pure; documentary style with restraint from excess expression.

The University Gallery has produced a dvd catalog of 17 of Roche's performances that were taped in the years from 1999 to 2005. This large body of work includes some of the artist's most exagerrated personas as well as the closest depictions of the real Jim Roche in the film collections.

Also included in the exhibition are a new series of DVD performance pieces.  Roche creates characters that are strong, opinionated and intense.  There is brilliance in these cultural interpretations combined with honesty that can be unnerving at times.  Jim Roche has been involved with commercial films, and is well loved and respected in many art circles.  His exciting, brave and energetic persona shines through consistently in all of his work.
