Finding Neverlands in Music and Films

All I Need is Love, Peace and Music

It was the Beatles' With a Little Help from My Friend that supported me through those hard times in high school. It was the Beatles' All You Need is Love that cheered me up when I found myself in times of trouble in college. And it was Simon & Garfunkel's America that calling me all the way to the States for my American dream. I don't believe in God, but I do have faith in the soul power of love and peace in Rock N' Roll. The utopian kingdom once built by the "Woodstock Generation" in the late 1960s will never fall apart in my heart.

Top 3 BANDS that never grow old to me

The Beatles
Their music is a beacon of hope whose blinks light all darkness for me.
Simon & Garfunkel
To me, they are more like great poets than musicians. Their lyrics, flowing with heavenly vocal harmonies, tell about all the sentimental feelings and stories about the vulnerable world of the youth.
Gun N' Roses
Guns N' Roses' Paradise City was the song my band played for our very first show in college. Their music reminds me of those old school days of being wild in the heat of the sun.

Cinema is Only an Aspirin

"Cinema never saved anyone's life. It is not a medicine that will save anyone's life. It is only an aspirin." Luc Besson is so right. There are always some moments you feel like no one around you could understand your tiny little heart. And that's when you turn to films. Watching a good film is like laying a warm hand on my weary heart, which can always makes me cry like a baby. Most of my beloved ones are art films and independent films. Rather than being dazzled by the spectacular special effects and large-scale production of the current popular films, I appreciate more the capture on characters' subtle emotions and the reflection and critique on the times and the real world we live in.

Top 3 FILMS that heal my world

Midnight Cowboy (1969)
It is an old film directed by John Schlesinger and stars Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight. Schlesinger shows us a panorama of the nasty life in the street of the New York City with the most romantic and beautifully gritty shots. The heart-breaking tragedy of the two "little guys" uncovers the serious issues behind the colorful neon lights of America's modern metropolis life.
Comrades: Almost a Love Story (1996)

A good film is like the warm sunshine in winter,
cooling the sting and warming my heart.
It is a Hong Kong film by Peter Chan starring Maggie Cheung and Leon Lai. The love and loss, sweetness and bitterness in the fate of the two ordinary people under the dramatic historical transition, which is whispered to the audiences with Teresa Teng's romantic ballads, touches every Chinese wayfaring stranger tenderly. It is a true fact that wherever there are Chinese people, the songs of Teresa Teng can be heard. Just like Teresa Teng's Tian Mi Mi, one of her most popular songs as well as the Chinese title of the film, Comrades: Almost a Love Story is the one of the most successful films that captured the common sentiments among all Chinese in the 1990s.
Up (2009)
Among popular films of recent years, Up is one of the few that earned both my laughter and tears. Pixar creates a beautiful fantasy to fulfill old Carl's wish. It recalls the "Paradise Fall" that exists in everyone's heart. Few of us could ever be so lucky to have those colorful balloons with magic power to help us realize our rosy dreams. How many times in your life would the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true? You can't tell it just from one animated film.
