Major Components
An MDI consists of 5 major components, as shown in the figure below:
- Drug
- A suspension of microized powder in a liquefied propellant, or
- A solution of the active ingredient in a cosolvent (usually ethanol) mixed with a propellant.
- Propellant/excipient mixture
- Canister
- Metering valve
- Mouthpiece/actuator
