My academic interests lie primarily in cultural studies, deriving from the various fields of English literature, women’s and gender studies, and German studies. These disciplines provide the foundations for research in science fiction from the Gothic of the 19th century to the late 20th century with a distinct focus on issues of gender and body politics. Broadly, my interests are

  • science fiction,
  • women’s and gender studies,
  • cultural studies,
  • popular culture,
  • body politics,
  • science and literature,
  • utopia,
  • the fin de siècle,
  • Gothic literature,
  • trauma,
  • narrative medicine, and
  • German literature and philosophy.

"It's a very ancient saying,
but a true and honest thought,
that if you become a teacher,
by your pupils you'll be taught."
-Oscar Hammerstein
