Practicum

I am currently mid-semester in completion of my practicum experience at Winterville Elementary School in Winterville, Georgia under the supervision of Professional School Counselor, Vivian Humphrey.  The practicum focuses on developing basic facilitative, helping skills.  40 of the 100 required hours are spent in direct service to children and adolescents in either individual or small group counseling.  Examples of the remainder of  the hours could be spent in classroom guidance or school-wide programs, shadowing a principal or master teacher, attending SST or faculty meetings or other professional development activities related to counseling.  Students meet once a week with Dr. Richard Hayes for group supervision and one hour a week with a doctoral student supervisor.  In addition, one hour of on-site supervision per week is spent with my on-site supervisor.
My caseload includes 4 regularly scheduled individual students and four small groups that encompass self esteem and leadership issues for high achieving fifth-grade females, anger management, and support for neglected children.  In addition, I also see students in crisis situations or others as needed.  Play therapy and expressive arts are central to my counseling elementary students. I am required to complete 100 hours and currently have completed nearly 140.
