Calling all UF students! I'm taking submissions!
I'm taking submissions of UF dorm reviews from current and previous University of Florida freshmen, sophmores, juniors, seniors and graduate students. Just click on the comment button below. I want to hear from you! Tell my webpage visitors about your experience living in the UF dorms or in off-campus dorms near the University of Florida campus. I'll be posting your reviews and dorm ratings onto mywebpage, to help the incoming freshmen make the best choice when deciding their UF housing preferences. Did you live in Broward? Buckman? The Ivy House? Hume Hall? Beaty Towers? Let others know what your experience was with the UF housing assignments based on your UF priority application date. Did you think it was fair? Did you get one of your choices? Were you placed in one of the dreaded temporary triples? Tell others about your UF dorm room layout-- single dorm suite, double dorm suite, triple dorm suite? Did you have a shared bathroom? What did you think about the communal bathrooms? Are you glad you made the choice you did?
Now that you know more about the other dorms, would you make a different decision, if you could go back and change your housing preferences?
Let me know! I'll begin posting the reviews, ratings and explanations next week!

UF Dorm Review: Beaty Towers
Hi, my name is Scott and I'm a third-year UF Senior. I stumbled upon this site, realized freshman would be receiving acceptance letters soon and thought it best to share my dorm experience with the incoming class.
I chose Beaty Towers for two reasons: everyone told be it was best to live on campus as a freshman and because I wanted a semi-private bathroom (the bathroom is shared amongst four people - much better than the 80 or so at normal dorms.)
I must say, however, that I made the wrong decision. Living in Beaty Towers was a largely unsatisfactory experience. Here's (10!) reasons why.
1. Parking is horrible. You have to park at least a half-mile away on weekdays (and most weekends). Having to walk 10 minutes just to get to your car to run errands makes it a lot less likely that you'll get those things done. It also chains you to the on-campus eateries which are over-priced and crappy.
2. Cramped. Cramped. Cramped.
3. RA's. Why are they still living in the dorms through their junior year? Because they have nothing better to do than pester freshman with endless write-ups, fire checks and horrible movie-nights featuring films like "Herbie Fully Loaded."
4. Random Roommates. I moved in with one friend and we got two random roommates. You know the horrible roommate your parents or college friends have told you about? YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO GET ONE OF THEM IF YOU ACCEPT A RANDOM ROOMMATE. Or in my case, two of them.
5. The elevators at Beaty are so bad. So. Bad.
6. Compared to a lot of off-campus housing options, Beaty is waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced. It's not even closer to class than a lot of stuff on the 13th St. side of campus.
7. You do not meet people just by living on campus. Socially, I've meet waaaaaay more people since I moved off-campus. I've also gotten more involved in Gainesville-area events, all of which have been immensely rewarding.
8. The internet is horrible and the restrictions on what you can and can't do is VERY tight. Don't even think about downloading music, movies or torrents or your internet will be SHUT DOWN. Do it once or twice more and it's gone for good. Even if it was a friend messing around on their own computer in your room. Trust me.
9. 2AM fire-drills in the middle of January aren't fun. Especially when you live on the 9th Floor. They're even less fun when they happen twice a week.
10. The kitchen is the size of a small bathroom stall.
