Twelve Points Individual Adventure Time Trial

No Shirt...No Fees...Some Service

Drop your boat and paddle gear at the secure transition area within Ed Stone Park (west of DeLand, where SR 44 crosses the St. Johns River ) at 0630 on Sunday, July 20, 2008.

Attend the instruction/question & answer meeting before proceeding to the start of the bike segment (10 minute drive north) at the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge access point near the intersection of Highland Park Road and Audubon Avenue.

At five minute intervals, the 12km bike segment will begin for single individual participants when they are handed specific instructions and a premarked map.

After collecting the four bike segment checkpoints, proceed to the first transition area to receive specific instructions and a premarked map for the 14km paddle segment.

After collecting the four paddle segment checkpoints, proceed to the second transition/finish area to receive specific instructions and a premarked map for the 12km trek segment.

After collecting the four trek segment checkpoints, proceed to the second transition/finish area.

Each segment is of appropriate length to require 2 – 2.5 hours to complete.

Participants must have the ability to navigate by topographic map and compass.

There is no mandatory gear requirement. However, gaiters or long pants, a waterproof map case, a writing utensil, compass and hydration fluids will be useful.

Travel within a segment must be accomplished by the stipulated means and without aid except from other participants.

I will transport your bike and gear from the first secure transition area to the second secure transition/finish area at Lake Beresford Park (10 minute drive south), 2100 Fatio Road.

I would like to suggest that participants carpool from Ed Stone Park to the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge start. Whatever your decision, I will transport you from Lake Beresford Park to your vehicle once you have completed the course.

Participants will need to portage their boat about 300 to 400 meters at the end of the paddle segment to the secure transition/finish area within Lake Beresford Park.

Teams should help anyone encountered on the course in distress, dispose of their litter as well as that of others, respect private property and cite the Florida Recreational Use Statute whenever appropriate.
