Taking control

Thursday, April 24, 2008

It is really starting to seem to me that people no longer have any common sense or think for themselves. We live in a very trying time and it seems that the majority of people are on some type of daily medication. The biggest of the daily meds are the antidepressants that so many people are taking these days. Are we really such a miserable society that we can't make it through our day to day routine without medicating? It just seems to me that most people are just numbing themselves instead of addressing the real problems in their existence. We spend, as a society, too much time trying to avoid the real issues. If you look at it, it is really obvious. If you are married to someone and things are not working out, well then divorce them, if you can't stand your life then numb your either with drugs, alcohol, or antidepressants. It is a really sad statement, but especially in this country, people are looking for the quick fix.

It is really important to think things through, take time and assess the pros and cons, and see what you can do today to improve things in the long term. Things like returning to school to get a degree in a different field, although long term, will more than likely make you happier with your job and is likely to give you a larger income. Since finances are one of the things we as a society worry about most and depression is another biggie, then you can kill two birds with one stone with this one solution.

I can not take the snivelers, the whiners and alike. I don't want to hear you complain about each and every thing that is wrong in your life, as I am trying to work through mine, not always successfully mind you, but still I am trying to make improvements each day. It is my new way of handling things. I am trying on a smaller scale now to make the changes I need on a daily or weekly basis. For instance, this week I am changing one thing in my diet. Each day I am eating breakfast (I usually don't at all) and I am eating Cheerios with a banana (fruit is one thing I don't eat enough of). This is just one example of how changing one little thing can improve your life a little more. So in theory, if you made at least one little change per day or per week, you could really have a whole new way of doing things in just about a month or so.

Know that the power to change you is held only by you and the man upstairs and realize that it is never too late to make changes in yourself. One last things, be sure to eat right, exercise and get plenty of rest, these are big things that will improve not only your out look on life, but also your health in the short and long term.

Take the bull by the horns and start taking control of your own life today!
