Finding The Perfect Gift Online

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Being busy all the time, I find the convenience of shopping online a real treat. I try to pay attention to when an event or birthday is coming up and try to mark it on my calendar a few weeks before. Then I can hop online and look for a great gift for that person. I have shopped on many of the store websites in addition to Ebay and Amazon. I am always looking for a great deal, and I usually get one. Sometimes I know exactly what I want to get a person, but sometimes when I am not sure what else to get, I look for a book on Amazon that either deals with a topic that I think will interest the person, or find an author that I know writes well, and send them that.

Recently, I have turned Lynne on to this shopping online, and she loves it. It is a great way to get what you want, shop around and compare prices, and even get it sent directly to the person, without hassle. It is important to contact the seller of an item, if you need it to arrive quickly, and let them know when you need it by. Sometimes they will offer some type of expedited shipping, which may cost a little more, but if you are running behind on your ordering it may be the way to go. I am not a last minute shopper, but Lynne is. She will look at her calendar and panic because the birthday is next week and then have to pay for the rushed shipping. This is fine, but it is better to plan in advance if you really want to get the best price on something. Also, it causes less stress on a person to know that everything is taken care of.

Some great gift ideas, when you don’t have anything particular in mind for a person are books (be sure to write a little personal note inside the front cover to make it special), music (only do this if you know the genre or artist a person likes), a net flix subscription (for the movie lover or person who has limited access to getting around), also for women I love to buy a nice bath set, and there are also a lot of neat gift ideas that are seen on TV type stuff where there is something for everyone. These seen on TV items are usually really unique and useful items that make life easier. And we can all use to have a life that is being made easier by a new gadget or invention. Oh, and I can also recommend Not on the High Street for quirky little gift ideas that you won't find anywhere else.

I recently bought one of these seen on TV items for my uncle for his birthday; I found it online and got a really good deal. It was a flashlight set that you just shake and use, no batteries needed. I thought this was a really great idea, especially to keep in the car or even around the house in case of a power outage or something. Not having to buy batteries is good; however, knowing that the batteries can’t die out on you in the middle of something is probably the best part. They work really well, and my uncle thought they were great, he uses them all the time.

Another great place to find these gadget like items is in the Lillian Vernon or other catalogs that I get in the mail. Some of them are really innovative, and I have also found that if you know that there is something that is of interest to you or would make a great gift, then wait and buy it off season. I did that with a gift for my Mom, I knew it was something that she wanted, and I bought it at the end of the season for half price and gave it to her for Christmas.

No matter how you do it, always acknowledge people, even if only with a small gift, to let them know that you are thinking about them and that you care. There's really no excuse, if I'm really stuck for ideas I always think that thoughtfully chosen flowers are a great option.
