Camping Trip 2003
Death Valley and Yosemite,
California
May 3 - 10, 2003

Death Valley was discovered in December of 1849, when a group of settlers bound for the California goldfields made the mistake of taking a short cut that took them to a desolate territory in which they spend many weeks in hardship conditions.  Three people died due to the territory conditions.  When the last group left the valley, a women turned around and said:  "Goodbye, Death Valley."

It has been considered the hottest place on earth.  In 1913 the temperature in Furnace Creek was 134 F. On July 15, 1972, the ground temperature reached a record of 201 F.
