Radio After TV



When TV was introduced in the 1930’s radio had to adjust to survive. Everything radio was doing TV could do better because it added pictures. Radio shifted and people adopted quickly. Radio did not fall apart it just had to adapt and change. The way is survived was through music. Radios started playing music on FM because it was superior to AM. And during the 1950’s “Rock and Roll” was a creation of FM and was introduced by radio announcer Allen Freud.

Casey Kasem introduced the top 40 format and Gordan Mclendum introduced the top 40 radio station which played the same top songs over and over again. This format still exists today. It also consist of many promotions and short news bulletins.

It also helped that car manufactures started putting radios in cars. Radio networks wanted to create something for everyone and therefore had to specialize. They created different stations and created the musical genera such as classic rock, country, and rhythm and blues. As AM radio was about to collapse talk radio helped it survive. Radio also became local and regional. It now reaches many local and regional advertisers.
