Case Study #2: The Inquisitive Student

At the end of the day, the "inquisitive" student drags in, sits down, and with purpose asked: "What do you want from me, and why do I have to stay after?" The student teacher, still exasperated, and still feeling his "power" said "Don't you know? You disrupted the class with too many questions!" At which point, the student looked him right in the eye and said "If you don't like questions, then don't become a teacher" and walked out.

(By the way, this is high school, and our classes are electives. We take everyone and anyone including mainstreaming the physically handicapped and the emotionally disturbed.)

Needless to say the student teacher didn't get it and quite frankly will never get it. While I may not be best teacher on the planet, I NEVER keep anyone after school. I only stay after school with kids I am working with in a variety of ways, from art club to yearbook. AFTERSCHOOL is not a punishment, it is a luxury, time well spent. I deal with every discipline problem or in this case, questions, as they happen, not with the "wait until your daddy comes home, later, concept."
