Complete Work History

Spring 2011: Teaching Assistant for Thomas Sputo, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., SECB, University of Florida.

Graded papers, administered tests and compiled grade spreadsheets for CGN4905/CGN6905 Building Codes and Professional Practice.

2008-2011: Research Assistant for David Bloomquist, Ph.D., P.E., University of Florida.

Researched Transverse Joint construction for Portland Cement Concrete (PCC). Studied the effects of transverse joint width on the cost, ability to clean and performance of the joints.

My personal role included:

2003-2009: Drywall Hanger, Sherouse Plastering, Inc.

Journeyman in drywall crew (full/part time). Roles included supervising crews of three or four workers to complete entire houses. This job provided me with a lot of my construction knowledge and has proven an invaluable position for it was this and my pool cleaning job that provided me with enough money to live in Gainesville and pay for my AA degree.

Summer 2008: AutoCAD Instructor, University of Florida: College of Engineering.

AutoCAD Instructor for the Engineering Freshman Transition Program (EFTP) at UF. Worked with a team of Instructors creating syllabus, lectures, labs, lab instructions and class website for 130+ students. Personally taught and graded papers for a class of 40 students. I feel that this job gave me a comfort level with speaking in front of a crowd that I didn't ever expect to achieve. It was also interesting viewing the classroom from the other side of the lecture stand.

2004-2006: Pool Cleaner, Fun State Pool Co.

Ran a service route that included 50+ pools. The service included cleaning, chemical balance, and maintenance on pool equipment. This was a really good job. I'm talking board shorts, flip-flops and sunglasses; come on! It actually paid really well too. In all seriousness, this job taught me a lot about personal customer service. In my position at Eckerds I learned all too well about retail customer service, but personal customer service is a different story. In a retail position you always have a certain amount of control that you don't have in the house, lawn or pool service industry. If the customer is not happy with the service provided then you usually have to go to a much further extent to make sure the end result is customer satisfaction.

1999-2003: Assistant Manager, Eckerds.

Assorted tasks included: store management, payroll, scheduling, office accounting, bank deposits, marketing, inventory, organizing stockroom, building displays, running registers and working in photo-lab and pharmacy. Also traveled around North Central Florida to organize or open stores as special tasks for district management. For a high school job this position turned out to advance quickly into a somewhat promising career. I became an assistant manager at Eckerds in Gainesville, Fl. before turning my interest towards pursuing an engineering degree.

1997-1999: Wait, Kitchen and Prep staff, Sadie Maes Restaurant, Jamestown, N.C.

Responsibilities included: waiting on customers, busing tables, washing dishes, preparing food and clean-up duties. This was the job that helped me get my first car, therefore it was an important one for me.

1995-1997: Laborer and "right-hand man", Masonry work with my Dad.

Made "mud", carried block/brick, set up scaffolding, filled mud pans, cleaned up jobsite, cleaned tools and anything else that needed to be done. This has to be my favorite job out of all the jobs I have held; it was working with my dad, need I say more. Also, my dad is the biggest reason I have such a broad understanding of construction practices. Over the years he has taught me a lot of various techniques and procedures he learned throughout his extensive experience in the construction industry. His recent position in project management has brought on new stories of commercial construction procedures, which are appreciated because the Structural Engineering degree I have acquired should place me in a position with some form of commercial construction.
