Kaitoke Regional Park: Rivendell and the Fords of Isen
-Kaitoke Regional Park rests in the foothills of the Tararua Ranges, 12 kilometers north of Upper Hutt. The park contains around 2800 hectares of
native forest with more than 100,000 visitors a year
-There are four different walkways leading from the main entrance, with picnic spots and camping grounds available
-The park features both the Hutt and the Pakuratahi Rivers
-The position of Rivendell is signposted from the entrance to the park and at the location itself there is an interpretive display showing the
construction and final result.
-Most of the shoots of Rivendell were digitally animated, though a large set was build at Kaitoke, including the bedroom where Frodo
recovered after his attack
-The set includes scaffolding that continues into the river, along with a man-made river and waterfalls
While Kaitoke Regional Park served as the template upon which Rivendell was built, most of the location is digitally animated
