I am a Ph.D. candidate focusing on cultural anthropology. In 2007-08, I completed fieldwork in South Africa funded by a Fulbright-Hayes award. My dissertation research concerns cultural tourism in the urban townships of Cape Town. I am investigating how the local community is engaged in tourism practices as well as how the tourism industry shapes the production of place, history, and culture in the post-apartheid era.
