Course description: As the
highest-level undergraduate language
offering (POR), this class covers the most distinctive and difficult aspects of
Lusophone grammar and structure, specialized
vocabularies, different stylistic / cultural registers, and application of
these to translation and original composition. In addition, the class
distinguishes (principally Brazilian) Portuguese from related Romance tongues,
especially Spanish.

Grading: 2 exams [200/200] (40%); 8 bi-weekly writings
[50 per] (40%) =R# below; class performance,
presence (20%) [200]. NB: excellent
score needed in all categories to merit an A grade, or good in both for a B
grade, or adequate in both for a C. Scale: A = 93-99.9, A- = 90-92.9; B+ =
87-89.9; B = 80-86.9; C+ = 77-79.9; C = 70-76.9; D+ = 67-69.9, D = 60 >.
