Pre-requisite:  Intermediate proficiency in Portuguese (POR 3243 or the equivalent, preferably higher). By transcript or by permission of the instructor.  Always, any doubt:  please consult.

Course description:  This is the highest-level undergraduate language class (POR) despite the one-time ad hoc use of the POW (Writing=Literature) rubric.  The class covers the most difficult aspects of Lusophone grammar and structure, specialized vocabularies, different stylistic/cultural registers, and application of these to translation and original composition. In addition, the class distinguishes Portuguese from related Romance tongues, especially its close cousin Spanish.

Grading:  2 exams [200/200] (40%); 8 bi-weekly writing assignments [50 per] (40%)  =R# below; class participation, including attendance (20%) [200]. Excellent performance in all 3 areas for A.
