About

This site is dedicated to the We want unsecured online voting FaceBook Group. Please read the F.A.Q. before asking questions to see if yours was already covered. For the technical background behind online voting please see the Summer 2004 Report under additional links.

Future plans include an absentee ballot movement. More details to come.

Online Petition

The online petition is up at: http://www.petitiononline.com/ufsgvote/petition.html. You may recognize some of the wording. I believe it was best to keep the wording of the petition short, blunt and to the point.

F.A.Q.

Q: Couldn’t someone setup a laptop in Turlington and get people to vote there?
A: No. IP addresses, think of it as a home address in which mail (packets) are directed to the correct individual, can be blocked. This means anyone on the wireless network can be blocked to prevent this sort of actions.

Q: What about WAP enabled devices (palms, blackberries, phones)?
A: Same principle of IP blocking (from above) applies. Also many WAP enabled devices can only connect to websites that are programmed correctly to be viewed on the smaller screens of such devices.

Q: What about people who know my Gatorlink ID/pass?
A: Due to Acceptable Use Policy and Gatorlink terms and conditions you should never give out your gatorlink password. If an individual knows your login information you should change it immediately.

Q: Why is it called unsecured online voting?
A: Online voting has 128 bit encryption. The same encryption used for many online transactions including banking, credit cards and online merchants.

The term unsecured comes from the voting location. It is considered unsecured as there is no guarantee the voter in the other side is who they say they are or is voting themselves without coercion.
