Personal
I grew up in Florida and and moved to Asheville, NC in 1993 where I attended The University of North Carolina at Asheville.  While there I earned a bachelor's degree in biology while having a good time studying amphibian population dynamics with Dr. Jim Petranka in the Appalachians, mainly at the fantastic Tulula Wetlands.  In my senior year, Dr. Tim Forrest introduced me to the world of insects... and I was hooked.
In 1996 I was blessed with the birth of my beautiful son, my true love, Sequoya Ashe Waring.  He came as a surprise and has continued that tradition to this day.  Then, there's my alpha-bitch, confidant and field companion, Banyan who is always faithful and by my side.

After UNCA, I moved to Gainesville, Florida where I was accepted for the MS program at UF in entomology.  Currently, I am working on research for an integrated pest management (IPM) program with Dr. Joe Funderburk.  Data generated from this research will be reveal some of the dynamics of predator-prey interactions in pepper and will ideally enhance the adequacy of a biological control aspect of an IPM program in controlling the spread of thrips-vectored TSWV (tomato spotted wilt virus).
