Oicenth PhangI grew up in a little district called Islington, which is in St. Mary, Jamaica. I attended Wolmer's High School for Girls from 1992 - 99, and after graduating I moved to United States to attend college. I spent two years at Broward Community college (which is in south Florida) where I earned an Associate of Arts degree in journalism. From there I transferred to the University of Florida.

My major is Online Media, with an outside concentration in International Relations. I'm currently a senior at the University of Florida. I am also working in new media at the Independent Florida Alligator where I update the news section of its Web site at alligator.org.

Although I am interested in being a reporter, my true passion is developing news content for the internet. I have taken classes in web design and web writing during the past three semesters as a part of my Online Media concentration in the College of Journalism. The dynamic nature of this relatively new medium of news delivery has captured my imagination and I feel it will provide me the avenues I crave to explore my creativity.

My goals at the moment are focused on completing my bachelor’s degree in journalism and then going to graduate school to study Mass Communications. Beyond that, I hope to work with the online section of a news publication developing original content for the internet.
