michael warwicke-guest speaker...
startin' with definin' faith: is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do
not see. Hebrews 11:1(NIV) ...is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of
things not seen (NAS).
he mentioned how bein' the Bible is the Word of God, God writin' through man,...we don't have to prove it, people who reject it though, have to prove it wrong...and they haven't been able to yet-and for someone to reject, that means they would have had to read it. the Bible is the most read/scrutinized best seller... yet no proof against it.
we talked 'bout darwin and how he had a bachelor's degree in theology and how he and his pal and really good buddy, took one look at the complexity of the eye and it made him sick and how lookin' at just the eye, he knew there had to be some supernatural Being (God) that must have created it as it was... it could not have evolved to the way it is.
in getting into the proof- Michael talked 'bout 3 of many examples of proof from old testament, he talked 'bout creation (Genesis 1) and the odds of nothin' creatin' nothin'-bein' for life to start itself would be 10 to the 40,000th. on a small scale to give us something we might be able to fathom as an example... if you were to let one electron painted red go in space...anywhere in space...and then with one scoop pickin' up that one electron your odds would be 1 in 10 to the 65th and scientists say 10 to the 60th is impossible. so, the existence of reality is God.
second example bein'...the tower of babel (Genesis 11)-how the site was excavated and they found the platform of the structure with the bricks stamped by Nebuchadnezzar-each one with his seal sayin' that 42 generations ago his ancestors tried to build this tower to reach God but for some reason they did not complete it, (here is where my notes are a bit rough, i don't have the exact wording on the bricks, but michael can give ya that and a bit more detail on this example)
...and the third example being Moses parting the red sea and how on the faces of the mountains there are writings similar to what egyptians hieroglyphics would be, and this one archeologist (who's name i do not have, but michael does) came along and translated it and it said that the israelites had just cross the sea with the egyptians on their tails and after the sea was parted and all the israelites pasted through, how the sea collapsed on the egyptians...,no one believed him till the 'roseate stone' was found for these writin's just as they found one for egyptians hieroglyphics...and it said just those things.
finally there are 2200 prophesy in the old testament...all fulfilled...Psalm 22:16-18 spoke of the crucifixion...of Christ...just as it happened...but how did David lots of years prior to Jesus and even prior to the invention of the crucifixion know that our Messiah would be crucified and even more exactly what the people would be doin' that day? unless the Bible is God breathed and he had some divine intervention in writin' this psalm and all the other prophets.
all in all we were able to see that the
proof is out there, the Word is Truth. although, knowing and believing is all well and
good, receiving/accepting is actual step we
need to take-this step of faith is not one that is blind, but it is one that is essential.
knowing that God created and that Moses parted the red sea,...even knowing that Jesus died
on the cross to save us from our sins, only gets ya 'a pat on the back'...
receivin'/acceptin' Christ as our personal Savior, is the only way we can get into
heaven and be in communion w/the Lord while we are on this earth. the Word says even
the demons and the devil 'know' there is a God but to receive and accept His is a whole
what they haven't done-but it's something we can do- in fact the only thing we can do.
*again, i'm sorry 'bout the not-very-good-notes everyone, lemme know if you are confused or whatnot.
