History
The Hookah is a decorative waterpipe that orignated in Turkey about 500 years ago. First, it was only enjoyed by the Turkish elite but later it became a cultural standard for the masses of Turkey Along the streets of Istanbul the common man could relax in a Casbah and talk amongst his fellow man while puffing on a Hookah. This pastime quickly spread through the Arab world and has now emerged in the western world.
Using a Hookah
The Hookah consist of 5 parts which go sequential as follows: Bowl, metal shaft, vase, hose,
and mouthpiece. Other things needed are charcoals, tongs, foil, tobacco, water, and a
flame.
First, you load up the bowl with the tobacco. Formerly known as Shisha,
it comes in a vareity of flavors, like apple, coconut, coffee, or jasmine. Over the tobacco
you securly place a layer of aluminum foil with a series of holes that allow air to pass. Next you
light up some charcoals until they are red hot and place them on top of the foil with the tongs.
Make sure the bowl is snug atop the metal shaft, water is in the vase, and the hose is inserted
properly. Finally, you put your lips on the mouthpiece and puff, puff, puff.
