Education and Future
Plans:
My name is
Michelle Marie Hanna Şeref. I started my college education in Industrial and
Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Florida (UF) in 1997. I finished
my Bachelors of Science degree in that department in 2002. In that time, I was
involved in many officer positions (including president) for the Institute of Industrial Engineers. I also completed a
co-op experience for General Electric Power Systems in Greenville, SC
for seven months in 2001. I then started the Ph.D. program in ISE (again at UF)
in 2002 and worked on a project with Dr. Ravindra Ahuja to write a textbook for
a course on decision support systems (DSS). The book, titled Developing Spreadsheet-Based Decision
Support Systems (with Excel and VBA for Excel), is co-authored by myself,
Dr. Ahuja, and Dr. Wayne Winston and is due for publication in 2006. I then
left the ISE department with my Masters degree in 2004 to switch to the
Decision Information Sciences (DIS) department at the Warrington School of
Business at UF. I plan to finish the Ph.D. program in DIS in 2007. I am now
working with Dr. Selçuk Erengüç, Dr. Ravindra Ahuja, and Dr. Aydın
Alptekinoğlu.
I was
married last summer (July 29, 2005) to my husband, Onur Şeref. Onur is
finishing his Ph.D. in the ISE department at UF. We hope to apply together for
academic positions in an ISE (Onur) and DIS (me) department in schools in the North Carolina, Virginia,
Boston, or CA
areas.
Family:
I grew up
in Columbus, Georgia
but have lived the past several years in Florida.
My parents live in Sarasota,
FL (a wonderful city with great beaches
you should visit!). I have a younger brother, Tim, who is studying at Weston
Jesuit in Cambridge, MA towards a Masters degree in Theology.
Onur is from Adana, Turkey a wonderful city in an
amazing country. If you havent been to Turkey, you should go! Onurs
parents live in Adana, Turkey. His younger sister, Ezgi,
is finishing law school in Istanbul,
and his younger brother, Kivanc, is in medical school in Zonguldak.
