From a historical standpoint Gasparilla is an annual celebration of José Gaspar.
Its hosted by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla [above]
celebrates the Spanish pirate's operations in southwest Florida. There's an invasion
that begins after the Krewe arrives on a real pirate ship in downtown Tampa. They
throw beads, coins and other items during the parade...
This brings me to my most vivid memory of Gasparilla. I got hit in the head by a
peppermint one year when I was younger, I don't quite remember the age. What I do
remember is being so angry and most likely wanting to kick some pirate booty. Other
then that, the parade is really fun and I hope to join a Krewe one day.
