My culture and how it defines me..

A person’s personality is defined by many things, one of the most important being their experiences. As we go along this path we call life, it would be naïve to assume that nothing altered our experiences besides mere circumstance and the choices we make when we are considered ‘capable’. Maybe it’s all somewhat of a dominoes effect, in that our culture leads to our experiences, which influence our choices, which will then go back to affecting our experiences, and around and around we go. Being an Arab American has broadened my experiences, influenced my choices, and has therefore shaped my personality. Growing up in a ‘westernized’ community in an Arabic country has shaped me differently as a person than someone who grew up strictly in the United States or strictly in an Arabic country. Sometimes my two cultures come together like two beautiful voices in a melodic song, and sometimes it feels like I’m the flag in a game of tug-of-war. Either way, I’m happy to play.

I love football games. I love belly-dancing.
I love R&B and alternative music.
I love Arabic music, both classic style and pop.
I love hot dogs. I love koosa.
I’ll express myself in English. I’ll express myself in Arabic.
I’m in love with two, and luckily I can have them both.
