REFLEXOLOGY
"The body's bioenergetic flow--the harmonious alignment of bodily functions and nervous energy--is a prerequisite to good health; and reflexology allows us to experience the internal relationship between our body and our physical and emotional environment."
-Elson M. Haas, M.D.

Did you ever think a foot massage could heal and promote health in other parts of your body?
Most people have never heard of this practice called reflexology.

Reflexology is an archaic form of therapy. It includes massaging techniques used on the hands and feet to heal the body. For this site, focus will be placed on the aspect of reflexology involving feet.

Each foot is divided into reflex areas. Each area when massaged in a certain routine is said to help different areas of the body. The reflex areas of your feet are shown in the chart below.
REFLEX AREAS OF THE FEET

1.The Solar Plexus and Diaphragm Reflexes (both feet) 14.The Gallbladder Reflex (right foot only)
2.The Pituitary Gland Reflexes (both feet) 15.The Adrenal Gland Reflexes (both feet)
3.The Brain Reflexes (both feet) 16.The Kidney Reflexes (both feet)
4.The Thyroid and Parathyroid Gland Reflexes (both feet) 17.The Bladder, Ureter, and Urethra Reflexes (both feet)
5.The Sinus Reflexes (both feet) 18.The Intestine Reflexes (both feet)
6.The Ear Reflexes (both feet) 19.The Arm and Shoulder Reflexes (both feet)
7.The Eye Reflexes (both feet) 20.The Spine Reflexes (both feet)
8.The Lung Reflexes (both feet) 21.The Hip, Thigh, and Leg Reflexes (both feet)
9.The Heart Reflex (left foot only) 22.The Sciatic Nerve Reflexes (both feet)
10.The Stomach Reflexes (both feet) 23.The Ovary and Testicle Reflexes (both feet)
11.The Spleen Reflex (left foot only) 24.The Lymphatic System Reflexes (both feet)
12.The Pancreas Reflexes (both feet) 25.The Breast Reflexes (both feet)
13.The Liver Reflex (right foot only) 26.The Uterus and Prostate Reflexes (both feet)

You can utilize reflexology workouts involving these areas to promote healing, calm nerves, and relieve pain (Stephanie Rick, The Reflexology Workout). Here is an example of a reflexology cardiovascular workout:

THE CARDIOVASCULAR WORKOUT
To be performed three times a week for seven minutes
Match the steps below with the corresponding number on the above chart.

1. The Solar Plexus and Diaphragm Reflexes (seven times each, left and right sides) - stimulate these parts to induce a strong breathing pattern.
4. The Thyroid and Parathyroid Gland Reflexes (seven times each, left and right sides) - stimulate these glands to regulate the body's metabolic rate and pulse rate while controlling muscle tension.
8. The Lung Reflexes (seven times each, left and right sides) - stimulate the lungs to exchange toxic carbon dioxide in the blood for the oxygen necessary for efficient metabolic reactions.
9. The Heart Reflex (seven times, left side only) - stimulates the heart, regulating the cardiovascular action that pumps blood throughout the body.
15. The Adrenal Gland Reflexes (seven times each, left and right sides) - prompt the adrenals to secrete hormones that enhance the muscle tone of the heart and regulate blood pressure by controling sodium and potassium levels.
16. The Kidney Reflexes (seven times each, left and right sides) - encourage the kidneys to process wastes out of the blood while regulating fluid balances that affect blood pressure.
1. Repeat the Solar Plexus and Diaphragm Reflexes step.

This workout and more information about reflexology can be found in the book entitled The Reflexology Workout by Stephanie Rick.
