Thermophoresis

:: Section 4

Summary

Now that you have gone over this module, take a moment to reflect what you have learned about thermophoresis.

(1) A particle free layer is formed around a heated area due to a force field raised by thermophoresis.
(2) The size of a particle affects the mechanism of the thermophoretic force and the magnitude of thermophoretic velocity.
(3) Parameters such as thermal conductivity, temperature gradient, and gas properties will also affect the thermophoresis.
(4) A thermal precipitator is efficient in collecting small quantities of aerosols.
