Aerosols in the Health Care Field

:: Section 8

Summary

Three types of aerosol generators used to generate aerosols in the health care field are explored in this module. Three types of aerosol generators are MDI (Metered Dose Inhaler), DPI (Dry Powder Inhaler) and SVN (Small Volume Nebulizer).

These three devices are applied for various purposes. The aerosol deposition location is related with the aerosol aerodynamic diameter. (Please visit the Respiratory Deposition program to learn more about the topic.)

In MDI sub-section, you have learned the principle of operating a MDI, the use of CFC and HFA, the accessory devices for the use of MDI, how to use a MDI and its advantages and disadvantage.

In DPI sub-section, you have reviewed three types of DPI, the principle of a DPI, how to use a MDI and its advantages and disadvantage.

In SVN sub-section, you learned the principle of operating a SVN, the principle of CFC and HFA, the accessory devices for the use of MDI, how to use a MDI and its advantages and disadvantage.

Finally, think about if you have a medicine and which device you can use for the aerosol delivery.
