RAINFOREST RESCUE
Introduction:
You are Roger
and Regina the Rainforest Rescue Rangers. Recently you’ve noticed that Evilbiz
Corporation wants to come into your Rainforest and cut down all of the trees to
make toothpicks. Now you must create a
presentation to bring to the President of Evilbiz Corporation convincing him to
leave the Rainforest alone. The animals are depending on you. Think you
can handle it?
Task
In groups of two(one boy and one girl), students will need to
research four specific animals to present to the President of Evilbiz Coporation.
Through analyzing various resources, the group will learn about various animals
in the Rainforest and their roles in the Rainforest. For each animal you encounter you will fill
out an Animal Information Card (Click here for the Animal Information Cards).
Process:
You and your
partner enter the Rainforest trying to decide what the first animal that you
will present to the President of Evilbiz Corporation will be. You
come across a Flying Dragon. You decide to use this animal as the
first in your presentation to Evilbiz Corporation. You fill out
an Animal Information Card, and put it's picture on the card.
You continue walking for another few hours and you see an
Orangutan, Indian Cobra, Common Tree Shrew, Bearded Pig, Capybara, Vine Snake and
a Brazillian Tapir. You decide that those should be enough
animals for your presentation to Evilbiz Coporation, and you fill out
an Animal Information Card for each, making sure to include a picture
of the animal. To finish off your presentation, you decide to
either draw a picture of the rainforest including these animals in your
picture, write a story about one or more of these animals, create a
diorama of the rainforest including these animals, or write a song or
rap or poem about the rainforest including these animals.
Evaluation:
Did you follow all of the directions?
Did you create 7 animal cards (one for each animal in the quest) including the following information on each animal card?
- Body Size
- Diet
- Picture of the Animal
- Conservation Status
- At Least One Interesting Fact About the Animal
Did you either:
A) Draw a picture of the rainforest including the animals from the Animal Information Cards in your picture,
B) Write a story about one or more of the animals
C) Create a diorama of
the rainforest including the animals
D) Write a song, rap or poem
about the rainforest including these animals.
Pictures, Stories, Dioramas, Songs,
Raps and Poems will be graded on effort, creativity, and use of your
knowledge of the Rainforest Animals.

Conclusion
To save the Rainforest, you have created a presentation of Animal
Information Cards to show to the President and Board of Directors of Evilbiz
Corporation. The President loved your presentation and has decided to leave
the Rainforest alone. The Evilbiz
Corporation has changed it’s name to The Rainforest Preservation Society, and
you have been appointed as the new Vice Presidents of the company.
