Guinea, a small western-coastal country in Africa once run by France, is one of the more unfortunate countries in its massive continent. Some of its most pressing concerns are its devastating health conditions as well as its sad economic state. Guinea suffers from one of the highest mortality rates in Africa of one hundred and thirty three deaths per one thousand live births. Additionally, life expectancy at birth is only forty-five years. Over two-thirds of the population lives in rural areas, with only half of those in rural areas having access to drinkable water. Many of its citizens live in sad health conditions and poverty. As one of the poorest countries in Africa, its Gross-Domestic Product is $460 (US Dollars) per year (Jha, 3).
