Abstract |
Strokes are among
the ten major causes of death in the United States. It is important to make people aware of this condition and
empower them with knowledge about strokes so they can have the best optimal
health. Strokes can be very
debilitating because a stroke affects the brain which controls how you move,
think, feel, and behave. Understanding
strokes and how to manage them can help patients by allowing them to increase
awareness and improve their health and outlook. The American Stroke Association, a division of American Heart
Association, has developed fact sheets about prevention, recovery, and
warning signs of strokes in order to educate patients. In this two-page fact sheet entitled,
“Let’s Talk About Changes Caused by Stroke” it targets patients who have had
a stroke and explains what happens to the body. It is presented in a question
and answer format which highlights the main concerns of stroke patients like;
what are the most common effects of stroke, what are common emotional effects
of stroke, will I get better, how can I learn more, and what are the warning
signs of stroke. The amount of
information is excellent because there is just enough to education you and
not too much that you do not read the whole document. It is easy to read and follow which is
important for these patients. It is
also suitable for family members of stroke patients to learn more as
well. This fact sheet is free and is available
as a PDF document online through the American Stroke Association or by
contacting them directly through their telephone number. This is a great educational material for
stroke patients and family members to find facts and answers about strokes. |

Potential
audience.
This resource will be used by patients who have suffered from a stroke and
their family members. It could even
be used to educate at risk individuals as pamphlets in doctor’s offices. It will be used by a broad audience
because it is useful for anyone wanting to learn more about strokes. The use
will justify the purchase because it is free. Balance. This resource is part of a series of fact
sheets developed by the American Stroke Association to educate people on life
after stroke. It is important to the
balance of that collection because it highlights the most common changes that
occur after a stroke. Depth. The depth and length of this fact sheet are
perfect. Strokes affect the brain, so
giving someone who had a stroke something with too much content, in small
wording, and many pages or columns would be inappropriate. This fact sheet tells the patient what
they need to know and is to the point.
It answers the common questions and states the facts in a couple of
pages. |
