The Detroit Lions were established in 1930. Detroit is another team that has continued to stay traditional with their uniform progression. Not many significant changes have occurred in recent decades. In 1961, the lions first began to sport the lion logo on the helmet. Up until this time the organization just used a blank silver helmet.
Early 90's Uniform
In 2004, the Lions updated their helmet logo and jerseys by adding black trim. The new lion now has a layer of black trim, and the jerseys have a few black strips on the sleeves and a black outline around the numbers.
Current Uniform
The Detroit Lions have retired the following jerseys: #7 Dutch Clark, #22 Bobby Layne, #37 Doak Walker, #56 Joe Schmidt, and #85 Chuck Hughes.
