The Detroit Lions were established in 1930. Detroit is another team that has continued to stay traditional with their uniform progression. Not many significant changes have occurred in recent decades. In 1961, the lions first began to sport the lion logo on the helmet. Up until this time the organization just used a blank silver helmet.

Their home uniforms are a light blue, a tradition that dates back to the early beginnings of the franchise.

In 2004, the Lions updated their helmet logo and jerseys by adding black trim. The new lion now has a layer of black trim, and the jerseys have a few black strips on the sleeves and a black outline around the numbers.

In that same year the Detroit Lions issued a alternate black jersey for home games.
