In 1997, the Dolphins made a few minor modifications to update the dolphin and their jerseys. A dark blue accent color was added to the scheme. The blue accent can be found in the details of the dolphin and in the accents of the numbers on the jerseys.

The Miami Dolphins have retired the flowing jerseys: #12 Bob Griese, #13 Dan Marino, and #39 Larry Csonka.
