New program will help you win the lottery
What's up what's up, I just wrote a new program yesterday that will record lottery results and then predict numbers for you.
The .java and .class files are here.
Here's a quick run-through on how to use the program:
1) You need Java installed, run the program by typing "java lottery"
2) You probably will want to load results from a URL (choice 3) first, use a URL such as this.
3) You can save the results to a file (choice 2) and then load them back (choice 1)
4) If you have results loaded and choose 3 to load from URL it will add the results from that URL to your current results.
5) Finally when you have all the results you want entered, use choices 5 and 6 to pick your "winning" numbers.
Keep in mind this is just a friendly experiment that stemmed from the fact that I wanted to learn how to use the java.net classes to access the web. You can play the lottery your whole life using this program and never win. Don't blame me ;-).

Hurricane misses
Well once again the sleepy old town avoids disaster as hurricane Charley shocked the all-mighty meteorologists (voodoo chicken guessers) and struck land south of Bradenton.
The worse we got here was some light rain and I slept through it. I do feel fortunate though and am sorry for pushing our bad fortune upon others as this was supposed to be our year to get a hurricane.
I can't imagine how bad the damage is but I hear it is expected to total upwards of $15 billion.
Lord help us,
J
Hurricane Charley on the horizon
Well the day has finally come. The big craps table of life has come up snake eyes and a hurricane is headed balls-on with sleepy old Bradenton.
We have made the necessary preparations (bringing in all loose stuff, stocking up on supplies). Turns out, though, that this sorry S.O.B. is so damn big that we have to evacuate. So tomorrow morning (pre-arrival) we will be departing our humble abode and moving more inland to Jenny's and my Grandma's places. From there we will ride this pony like a cowboy eatin' waffles. That analogy makes no sense you say? You have never seen a cowboy eat waffles I reply.
See you on the other side of the storm.

Behold the powers of Maxis
I have recently re-acquainted myself with the classic Simcity 2000.
This was a staple in my childhood and although I could never do very well as an adolescent, I am now -- apparently -- a city-building master.
The problems that always seemed to plague me are no more and my town is flourishing. When I reach a million people I'll post some pics (if I forget, remind me).

My birthday...
Today is my 22nd birthday. This is no cause for celebration. Last year around this time I was waking up with the worst hang-over known to man. This year, however, was the first year that I am officially "getting older".
From when you are born to when you become 21 each birthday is a step closer to some goal. When you are younger than 13, your goal is to become a teenager. When you are under 16, your goal is to be able to drive. When you are under 21, your goal is to be able to drink. But now I have no goal to look forward to.
I guess there is always retirement :).
If you have a goal I can look forward to, let me know w/ a comment.

A confession...
I have a confession to make.
Earlier today I performed what is known in many circles as the "lean back".
And while I do not pull it off as well as a 300lb lard-bucket, I felt somehow cooler in the safety and comfort of my own automobile.

End of summer lull
Well it is about that time. The summer is winding down and everyone is taking their final exams.
I, on the other hand, have no class. But I am finishing up my work and getting ready to take a trip home for a week. I have to ask myself though, have I really accomplished anything?
My initial reaction is no, but then again just because the project is not completed, doesn't mean that nothing has been done. The full project is a very large task for two people to undertake.
So I will change my answer to yes, yes we have accomplished something this summer. And we are not done accomplishing things. I will see this project through to completion :).
Well I need to shrug off my desire to play Sudeki all day long and actual get back to work.

Best savings account available...
Ok well probably a month ago or so, I received some mail from Bank of America saying that if I started a savings account with them that I would get a free $50 gift card.
So I went to Wachovia to close my savings that I had with them and learned that I was earning a whopping 0.10% interest with them.
I was excited to learn that at Bank of America I would (in addition to the $50) be earning 0.25% interest.
This got me wondering though and I hit the internet to find the bank with the highest interest rate on an FDIC insured savings account.
And I have found it... if you would like to get a referral email with information to answer all your questions plus $25 free for signing up then give me your email address and I can get one sent to you.
There is no minimum balance, no fees, and they pay 2.10% interest (more than eight times better than Bank of America, and more than 20 times better than Wachovia).
One of the best things about it is that they make it very easy to put money in and take money out. You link your account directly with your checking account and make money transfers online through their website (this means no deposit slips or ATM visits to transfer money).
They also give you 7 free withdrawals per month (Bank of America only gave me 3).
Anybody who is looking to start an account (can start it with as little as $1), or who is tired of getting $0.25 interest in a year with their current bank should seriously consider signing up.
This picture tells it all:
