Subject: not virtual room - linking into ag bridge

john / joella -

how are you feeling about extending your knowledge... we had our first day 
on the grid at qut today.. and there are a few differences... the whole 
system runs on linux... which is a bit different in lots of strange ways.. 
but most importantly is this bridge issue (which i have already mentioned 
and i believe mark from qut has emailed you about giving you some adresses 
to get to

so when you first log in you dont go to the virtual room website and choose 
an institution. you need to use a terminal interface (now the guy at qut 
knows how to do this on linux but not windows...

there is a command line then you put in the address given to you by mark -
i am going to email mike daw at the manchester node who i know is preped in 
this / hopefully he will pick that up and email you and i instructions 
before tomorrow / fingers crossed x
or maybe andy has an idea on how to do it?

as it was in the linux interface it was as follows (but may vary for windows 
i am not sure -

[ag@ag1-display ag]$vic 131.181.240.53/15200

this should bring you straight into our display interface with two to four 
cameras visable

thats really as much as i know - i will ask mike and if he gets the email in 
time i am sure he can help if andy is unsure

the reason for this apparently - is that as australi is so far from anywhere 
international multicasting has not been fully implimented.... we can 
multicast within australia from most nodes but not to international sites... 
well you learn something everyday right... once you are hooked into the 
bridge though it is as if multicasting was operational and there are no 
other differences to any of the interfaces or operations

we will be in at 8am / 5pm your time... given that traffic permits a smooth 
ride / as the node is on the gardens point campus of qut which is right in 
the middle of the city...
