Note: We are unable to take in additional birds at this time. If you need to surrender your bird to a rescue please try Tampa Bay Parrot Rescue or Ziggy's Haven (Lake City)
Welcome to Gainesville Cockatiel Rescue. This site is dedicated to cockatiels (and other birds) who need a second chance to find a forever home. Only a small number of birds can be taken in as costs to run the rescue come largely out of my own pocket. We do ask for a reasonable donation for each bird offered for adoption to help defray the costs of caring for the rescue birds (veterinary bills, food, supplements, cages, toys etc). Remember all adoption donations go to care for the birds. We can always use supplies or donations towards vet care. This is a place for healthy birds, ill birds, neglected birds, birds with behavioral problems and those that just need a new home due to life changes (moving, new baby, lack of time...etc).
Information about cockatiel care is provided under resources. Despite what is often seen in pet stores, a diet of seed and water alone will often make a cockatiel ill or even kill it within a few years so please remember to feed your cockatiel, vegetables, fruit, sprouts, some pellets and some seed to keep your bird healthy. Cockatiels can live to be 20 years or even older, so they can be a life time companion with proper care.
Non-Gainesville residents: If you live outside of Gainesville and would like to adopt a bird from this rescue it is requested that you make a gas donation for us to do a home visit.
Vanessa: Female blue budgie
Vanessa is a pretty blue female parakeet. She was tame for her previous owner's 10 year old daughter but she is nervous of adults trying to handle her and flies in the opposite direction if someone reaches into her cage. Vanessa probably has a good amount of English budgie in her as she is quite large but does not look like an English budgie beyond large well placed black throat spots. She can be aggressive towards other budgies so may be better off kept alone. She already is on pellets so is ready for a new home. Prefer a home where she can be around other budgies even if not necessarily kept in the same cage since she might or might not injure them.
You must live in or very near Gainesville Florida to be considered as a potential adopter.
Please contact me if you have lost a cockatiel or have found any bird. People often write to the rescue if they have lost or found a bird and would love to help more birds find their owners again. I have helped to reunite one bird with his owner so far. Many people are still hoping to find the bird they have lost.
If you live in the Gainesville area and need a good avian veterinarian, please go see Dr Le Clear at Tri-County Pet and Bird Hospital. He is the veterinarian for our rescue birds and does a wonderful job of caring for them.
Please see our sponsors page for a complete listing of companies or organizations that help out the rescue with supplies or services.

The family of Evelyn Jones was kind enough to request donations be sent to the rescue in lieu of flowers since Evelyn was an avid bird lover. The birds thank you for your kindness.
