" There was a guy who was fishing. His trolling spoon got stuck in sea weed. Pulled out a bicycle. Full of leeches. People laughed. Took the bike and built a food joint. Clam coup, cold boiled clams, mexican beer. He hung the bike over the counter. Just three stools in there. Then he through out the shed eight feet and anchored it with glue and chains. Covered the walls inside with postcards. A filings board as roof. Slept behind the counter in the nights. One morning he was gone. The chains had cracked, there were some pieces left on the wall of a barber shop. If you looked down, you could see the water between your toes. It hung out too far, you see. "
This quotation was found in William Gibson's Virtual Light and it presents a picture of the Golden Gate bridge in the year 2005. The book can be cathegorized as rather readable, albeit I think Gibson's Cyberpunk triology, which is set further on in the future, is more readable. Gibson's latest work, the novel Idoru is set in about the same world as Virual Light.
