And I thought of all the rich people I know, and how so many of them sit alone in their living rooms saying to themselves, "So... what's next?" And I thought of all the not-so-rich people I know, and how desperately they want to be inside a cool, clean living room saying, "So... what's next?"

This is a quotation from Douglas Coupland's novel Polaroids from the Dead, which is really a mixture of fiction and documentary. With a Grateful Dead concert as the centre point, he introduces us to many of the characters attending and avoiding the concert, both the surviving hippies from the sixties and their modern more plastic and practically-minded decendants.
